Things to Do in Onna Okinawa
Onna is Okinawa's resort coast: Cape Manzamo's elephant-trunk cliff, the Blue Cave's luminous water, and beaches built for long, unhurried swims. Here's what's actually worth your time, ranked and judged.

How Onna fits together
Onna is a long resort strip on Okinawa's west coast, with Route 58 threading between hotels, beaches, villages and reef sites.
The coast faces the East China Sea and runs from the Cape Maeda area south toward Cape Manzamo and Seragaki. Cape Manzamo is the headline viewpoint; Manza Beach and Nabee Beach sit nearby. Farther south, Diamond Beach is a quiet stop behind Okashigoten, while Moon Beach and Tiger Beach are resort beaches around Maeganeku and Fuchaku. The Blue Cave is at Cape Maeda, reached from the Cape Maeda facility or by boat tour. Onna no Eki Nakayukui Market and the Onna Village Museum sit inland beside Nakadomari. A rental car is the practical way to connect them.
Start with the cliff and market, reserve the Blue Cave around sea conditions, then use the resort beaches and museum as flexible stops:

Onna Worth itCape Manzamo
Onna's essential coastal stop, where an elephant-trunk limestone cliff meets sunset over the East China Sea.
Cape Manzamo earns the top spot because it is quick, unmistakable and genuinely tied to Onna's landscape. The 20-meter-high Ryukyu-limestone cliff projects over the East China Sea in an elephant-trunk profile, while the grassy cliff-top park gives the view room to breathe. The name is traditionally linked to 18th-century Ryukyuan king Sho Kei, who reportedly said the grassland could seat 10,000 people. Come late for the west-facing sunset, or at low tide when pools form beneath the cliff. The accessible promenade takes about 10 minutes. Admission is 100 yen, parking is free, and the site runs from 8:00 until sunset.

Cape Maeda Worth itBlue Cave at Cape Maeda
Onna's most memorable water experience, provided you treat the sea conditions as a decision rather than a suggestion.
The Blue Cave is worth the effort for one particular effect: beams of light dye the water blue while tropical fish move through the seaward limestone cave. Access is either down the Cape Maeda stairs or by booking a boat tour, and the choice matters because Cape Maeda has no sandy shore and can have rip currents, deep water, jellyfish, sea urchins and other hazards. The posted sea-condition flag controls whether swimming is allowed. The facility has 180 parking spaces, hot-water showers, lockers and changing rooms. Parking opens at 7:00 and closes between 5:30 and 7:00 depending on the season.

Seragaki Worth the hypeManza Beach
The best all-round resort beach in Onna, with a scenic peninsula, easy swimming and an absurdly large floating playground.
Manza Beach is the polished version of an Onna beach day, set on a peninsula in the East China Sea with views toward Cape Manzamo. Admission is free, parking is 500 yen per day, and the beach information center can arrange marine activities, rentals and field trips. Swimming is listed year-round, with hours changing through the calendar. The telling detail is offshore: Manza Ocean Park is a giant inflatable playground of slides, trampolines and climbing walls divided into four zones plus a kids' area. It is fun, not serene, and the 2026 visitor price reaches 5,500 yen in the busiest period.

Maeganeku Worth itMoon Beach
A crescent-shaped resort beach with a private-island escape that makes it feel less generic than its hotel setting suggests.
Moon Beach is enclosed by the Moon Beach Museum Resort, but the crescent-shaped natural shoreline remains the draw. The U.S. military recognized it as a superior beach from the late 1950s through 1975, and swimming is listed year-round. Admission is 500 yen for adults or older students, 300 yen for children, and parking is 500 yen per day. The best reason to choose it over a more interchangeable resort strip is Yojima, the uninhabited private island just offshore, reached through excursions from the beach. It is about 50 minutes from Naha Airport by car, or a longer bus journey.

Onna Worth itNabee Beach
The most useful public beach in central Onna, with free parking, a real restaurant and activities without resort admission.
Nabee Beach is the practical counterpoint to Onna's hotel beaches: a free public beach inside Onna Seaside Civil Park, with free parking for about 200 cars and a one- to two-minute walk to the sand. It is surrounded by coral reefs and allows snorkeling, though snorkelers must wear life jackets. Swimming runs April 1 through October 31, with listed hours generally 9:00 to 6:00 or 7:00 depending on the period. The site also has year-round barbecues, marine activities and Uminchu Ryori Kame no Hama, an on-site seafood restaurant. Look for the fixed Nabi Swing, positioned for an ocean-backed photo.

Fuchaku MixedTiger Beach
A capable activity beach for hotel guests and day trippers, but its best experiences are seasonal and separately priced.
Tiger Beach adjoins Fuchaku Beach in front of Hotel Monterey Okinawa Spa & Resort, facing the East China Sea across white sand. Entry is free, though parking is paid, and swimming is seasonal: April 1 through October 31, from 9:00 to 6:00, extending to 7:00 in July and August. The beach is one of the few natural beaches on Okinawa's west coast, but the real selling point is the bookable activity menu. Clear-kayak guests take a three-minute boat ride to Fish Paradise Point, where transparent kayaks reveal the water below. That detail is excellent; the ¥5,500 adult price is less spontaneous.

Hidden gems
Where the crowds thin out.- Hidden gem

Seragaki MixedDiamond Beach
A genuinely quiet patch of coast for a short reset, not a full beach day with facilities.
Diamond Beach is the hidden-gem pick for travelers who want a quiet shoreline rather than another resort program. The Oki Island Guide describes it as secluded and relaxing, and its location at 100 Seragaki puts it just behind the Onna branch of the Okashigoten sweets shop. That tucked-away position is the telling detail: you can miss the beach entirely while driving the main coast. The research does not establish opening hours, admission, parking instructions or beach services, so do not arrive expecting showers, staffed activities or a reliable all-day setup. Come for a brief look, keep expectations modest, and confirm local access before swimming.

Nakadomari Worth itOnna no Eki Nakayukui Market
The best non-beach stop in Onna, where local produce, Okinawan comfort food and an island-shaped curry make a useful road break.
Opened primarily as a farmers market in 1990, Onna no Eki has grown into a roadside bazaar supplied by 400 registered farmers, most from Onna Village. It is open daily from 10:00 to 7:00, with free admission and parking for 133 cars, though holiday hours can change. Ten food stalls and the adjoining court cover Okinawan soba, seafood, pork-trotter dishes, shaved ice and sata andagi. Seasonal fruit gives the market a reason to return: tankan in January and February, mangoes and pineapples from June to September. The charmingly specific order is Curry Savila's Yanbaru curry, rice molded like Okinawa and ringed by curry.

Nakadomari Worth itOnna Village Museum
A compact, free cultural stop that gives the resort coast a local history lesson and a view across the sea.
Onna Village Museum is the rain-or-rest day that keeps an Onna trip from becoming beaches alone. Its permanent exhibitions are divided into Onna no Kurashi, or Life in Onna, and Onna no Michi, or Path of Onna. The historical display includes artifacts excavated from Gusuku sites and the Nakadomari Ruins, while a small theater shows traditional festivals and rituals. The second-floor hall has panoramic sea views, and visitors can handle a sabani, a traditional Okinawan fishing boat. Admission is free; hours are 9:00 to 5:00 with entry until 4:30, and the museum closes Mondays, selected holidays and December 28 through January 3.

Nakadomari Skip itNakadomari Beach
A beautiful, genuinely unspoiled fishing-village beach that asks too much of anyone expecting a safe, serviced swim.
Nakadomari Beach is the honest wild-card: roughly 600 metres of white sand and a long connection to everyday life in a small fishing village, rather than a purpose-built tourist attraction. It is also almost entirely without infrastructure. There is no lifeguard or designated swimming area, no toilets, showers or foot rinse, and only about three cars can park on the road nearby. The sand is coarse with hard coral, so water shoes make sense, and the reef edge is a long swim from shore. A line of cobblestones leading toward the sea, with greenery growing along it, is the memorable photo detail.
